CES Director of Development and Alumni Relations, Cyndy Mamalian, has been named one of Bethesda Magazine’s “7 MoCo notables you need to know!” This recognition comes from the recent publication of her book, Scratch My Itch: A Caregiver’s Honest, Humorous, and Healing Stories About the Horrors of ALS.
Cyndy and the Mamalian Family have been a part of the CES community for many years. Before joining the staff in 2022, Cyndy was a CES parent. Her three children, Alexandra (’15), Matthew (’18) and Juliette (’21) are all graduates of Christ Episcopal School, and her husband, Paul, was on the CES Board of Governors for seven years, three of which he served as Chair.
Cyndy was inspired to write a book after caring for her mother, who was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease (ALS). Cyndy kept notes throughout the caring process which later transformed into her book of essays. She now shares her stories in the hope of “Helping to find a cure for ALS, one book at a time.”
Recently, Cyndy has been on somewhat of a local book tour, including book signings at Park Books in Severna Park and Hudson Books at Dulles International Airport. She was also interviewed by Bethesda Magazine, and soon learned that she was named one of the 7 MoCo notables! Additionally, she was interviewed by two students at the American University in Cairo, Egypt who were working on a senior capstone project about ALS Advocacy.
Cyndy says she has enjoyed promoting her new book and “meeting so many wonderful new people in the process!” To learn more about Cyndy’s book, visit https://www.cyndymamalian.com/.
CES graduates leave with a deep sense of their responsibilities as members of the world community.”
