The CES Physical Education program is designed to provide opportunities for all students to develop skills, knowledge, and positive attitudes through fundamental movement, rhythmic, sport, and fitness activities. The intent is to help students develop lifelong skills that include regular and vigorous exercise and sports participation, as well as to encourage students to accept responsibility for their own wellness by leading an active, healthy lifestyle. The importance of sportsmanship is woven throughout the program. Our small class sizes ensure that each student maximizes their physical effort and they receive regular individualized instruction.
Kindergarten-Grade 6 students at CES have Physical Education every day. (7th and 8th graders have three or more PE classes per week.) Lower School (Kindergarten - Grade 4) students participate in PE classes on campus, with the exception of one weekly "walk" day when the PE staff takes Grade 3 and 4 classes on walks through the local historic Rockville neighborhood surrounding our campus.
The Middle School (Grades 5 - 8) PE program includes two classes per week off campus in addition to the weekly "walk" day, where the students receive professional instruction at local sports facilities, such as Rockville Fencing Academy, Rockville Municipal Swim Center, Gold's Gym, Freestate Gymnastics, TITLE Boxing Club, and Earth Treks Climbing Center.
