Minds to learn, hearts to love, hands to serve

Our Chapel Program

At Christ Episcopal School, our mission is to inspire minds to learn, hearts to love, and hands to serve. Chapel is a central part of how we live out this mission together as a community. All students in grades K–8 attend Chapel as part of their regular school week, and preschool students participate multiple times throughout the year. Chapel provides dedicated time for reflection, connection, and spiritual growth.

An Inclusive and Respectful Approach to Faith

Through biblical stories, liturgical services, and inspired music, Chapel helps students explore the value of spiritual practice in modern life. Our approach is inclusive and respectful of every family’s unique faith journey. While doctrinal instruction is left to families and their faith institutions, the Episcopal faith serves as the normative tradition for our community. Chapel services follow the Episcopal Book of Common Prayer and reflect Anglican traditions, including the Lord’s Prayer, the Creeds, and candle lighting by student acolytes.

Episcopal Worship Practices

Seasonal services may include optional communion. Students may choose to approach the altar to receive communion or a blessing, honoring personal comfort and family guidance. Our Chapel Leadership Team includes school staff, clergy, and CES teachers. Students are encouraged to engage fully in worship using their gifts through music, reading, writing, drama, and creative movement.

Character, Service, and Love

Each month, Chapel highlights a Cardinal Character Trait, helping students explore what it means to be people of strong character, to learn from mistakes, and to experience forgiveness. Above all, students learn that God loves everyone, no exceptions. Chapel also emphasizes hands-on service, acceptance of others as they are, and the importance of loving both our neighbors and our authentic selves.

A Beloved Community

Students are expected to show tolerance and respect for Episcopal traditions, just as we honor and respect all spiritual traditions represented in our school community. As an Episcopal school, we help students understand how history, culture, and beliefs shape who we are today. From this foundation, we encourage a lifelong quest for spiritual understanding, compassion, and connection, creating a beloved community where everyone matters and all can grow and thrive.
