Christ Episcopal School is proud to announce that our 3rd Graders are 2024 “READBowl” Maryland State Champions of Reading! This championship came as a result of reading the most minutes per team over four weeks during READBowl 2024: The World Championship of Reading. READBowl is a global reading competition put on by Read With Malcolm, the Youth Literacy Initiative of NFL Super Bowl Champion and children’s book author Malcolm Mitchell. On Friday, February 2, Rockville mayor, Monique Ashton, visited our 4th grade class in celebration of the “If I Were Mayor” essay contest. Ahead of Mayor Ashton’s visit, students brainstormed questions they wanted to ask her about her job as mayor. They asked things like “What does a typical day look like?” and “How do you inspire others?” Mayor Aston explained the importance of community involvement, time management, and relationships. Christ Episcopal School is thrilled to, once again, be named a Finalist in the 2024 “Best of Bethesda” Readers’ Poll! Thank you to our community for voting us Best Preschool this year. CES has won this award (previously called “Top Vote Getter” until 2023) every year since 2018 in a variety of categories, including Best Preschool, Best Private School/Lower School, Best Private School with Religious Affiliation, and Best School Principal (Nicole Stone).

CES Hosts Annual Grandparent’s & Special Friends’ Day Celebration

On the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, CES traditionally holds the annual “Grandparents’ & Special Friends’ Day.” This year, over 160 visitors attended the event! The day included breakfast, classroom visits, and a chapel service with student musical performances. During the classroom visits, teachers prepared special interactive lessons for the students to share with their special guests. A particularly active lesson was Sra. Johnson’s Louder! Hit that piñata! lesson, which saw grandparents all taking turns whacking a colorful burro piñata. Other lessons included poetry readings, art projects, and geography games. CES Boys’ Soccer Team Goes Undefeated!

We are so proud of our Cardinals for finishing the 2023-2024 season undefeated! They faced opponents including Bullis, Woods Academy, Sandy Spring Friends School, Norwood, St. John’s Episcopal School, and Barnesville School of Arts & Sciences. Head of School, Nicole Stone, wrote in a recent newsletter, “What an amazing feat! Many thanks go to Mr. Zuniga, our PE teacher, and Mr. John Lynch (MS Science teacher), who has volunteered to assist at the games.” What an amazing feat, indeed! 7th Grade Bake Sale Raises Funds for Shepherd’s Table

On Monday, October 16th, Mrs. Kesner’s 7th Grade Advisory Class hosted a Bake Sale and raised $193.43 for Shepherd’s Table. Shepherd’s Table supports individuals experiencing homelessness and hunger by addressing issues of food insecurity and poverty through a variety of programs. The 7th Grade is planning to use the funds they raised to make homemade casseroles for the organization. On Wednesday, October 18th, they are planning to meet up to make the casseroles and deliver them fresh to Shepherd’s Table in Silver Spring, MD. Any leftover funds after buying groceries will be used to purchase items that are on the…

CES Adds New Elective Program for Middle School Students

September 15, 2023 As part of our new electives program in the Middle School, CES students may choose between Study Hall, Financial Literacy, Art, and Yoga. This student yoga class is taught by CES parent and Registered Yoga Teacher, Mrs. Kami Boyle. Evidence shows that practicing yoga, meditation, and breathing exercises help to reduce stress and boost the body’s immune response. CES Launches New Gardening Initiative

August 31, 2023 Ralph Waldo Emerson told us, “Earth laughs in flowers.” At CES, our students bring us joy and make us laugh and smile every day, so how fitting it is to incorporate growing flowers and growing minds! Today, our Lower School students got an up close and personal look at the flowers and gardens on campus.
