CES provides two central practices to continually enrich the community's spiritual vitality. First, our staff and students in grades 1-8 begin each day gathered for worship (kindergarten students join us two to three times each week, sometimes more). An innovative feature of this daily chapel service is our chapel partner program, wherein each child in grades K-3 is paired with an older student to foster nurturing relationships across grade levels, caring leadership of older students and a deepening of friendships throughout the community.
Students reflect with their partners upon stories presented in chapel, become familiar with the Book of Common Prayer--from which we often read the Psalms and prayers--and engage in worship as both collaborators and friends. These pairings continue throughout the entire school year, sprinkled with seasonal parties, picnics and other social events to strengthen their bonds even more.
Each year new chapel partners form so that cross-connections continually expand. Daily chapel and these small groups deeply nourish both our spiritual health and our experience as a caring community.
