Outdoor Explorers

Most kids love an adventure, and what's better than exploring the great outdoors? Children will learn important outdoor skillsthey can use the rest of their lives, all while they're having fun in the great outdoors. A scavenger hunt, native wildlife, and supporting our environment will be featured this week.
Week 6: July 16-20

Game Show Mania!

Based on popular game shows, we will have a blast playing Win, Lose Or Draw, Scattegories, Family Feud, Nickolodean´┐Żs Double Dare, and Minute-to-Win-It. Who knows...we might even make up our very own game show!
Week 2: June 18-22

Edible Creations

Campers will create delicious, fun, and healthy foods to share with their friends and family! A field trip to a local grocery store will empower these budding chefs to appreciate what goes into food preparation and menu planning. Together, they will plan and prepare a lunch for themselves to enjoy on Friday! Cookbooks will also go home with your child. (An additional supply fee of $10 will be required.)
Week 7: July 23-27

Magic and Wizardry

Magic tricks are an endless source of fascination for many children, so learning how to perform some tricks can be terrific entertainment. Some tricks can actually help children improve their manual dexterity, while others simply help kids step outside of their comfort zone and learn that performing can be fun. Campers will organize a magic show to put on for our Little Cardinals, and parents will be invited to attend.
Week 3: June 25 - 29

Sports and Games from Around the World

Every child loves a good game, and there are so many to be explored! Have you ever played Ounch Neech (Pakistan) or Go-Go-Im (Israel)? They will pair up with friends to invent their own game. Your camper will learn a variety of games to share with friends at home, and leave with a resource collection of the games they learned.
Week 8: July 30- Aug 3

Super Sleuths

The sky's the limit as campers construct everything from bridges to edible towers. Campers will tackle a new challenge each day and build their way to fun! They will create their own vehicles with boxes and duct tape, make igloos with sugar cubes, and make cars with bananas and strawberries.
Week 4: July 2 - 6

Tropical Paradise

(4-Day week, prorated)
Everyone loves the beach, so why not recreate the experience right at home, in Tropical Paradise! Campers will do activities that reflect a trip to the beach. They will love pretending they are riding the waves, swimming with fish and building sandcastles. They will create their own group ocean mural. Come be a "beach bum" alongside your friends and counselors!
Week 9: August 6 - 10

Lights, Camera, Action!

Now is your chance to be a superstar! Write and direct your own play with your friends. Everyone will choose a favorite character from a book that we will use for the basis of our script. We will send out invitations to our Little Cardinal friends and family to enjoy the show on Friday.
Week 5: July 9 - 13

Full STEAM Ahead!

We have a creative week for all of you problem-solving campers! Incorporate your imagination with real-world applications, challenging you to question, explore and create using science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM). Each day, children will be "thinking outside the box" and working in teams to solve problems. Our very own Ms. Bialecki (CES teacher and mom) will be taking you on an adventure "Full STEAM Ahead!"
Week 10: August 13-17

Everyone loves a good old-fashioned Carnival! Campers will plan and create their own carnival games and foods to share with our Little Cardinals for our final camp week! Parents are welcome to attend the final event of CESummer on Friday!!

Camp Cardinal (Ages 6-10) prides itself on our small group size, allowing for plenty of individual attention and self-expression of campers who return year after year. Through a variety of interactive experiences, your child will have the opportunity to develop self-discipline, a strong sense of self, and leadership skills. In addition, they will have fun and make friends that last a life-time!

SWIMMING: Campers will go to Woodley Gardens pool on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays after lunch (weather permitting) and will return shortly before 3:00 p.m. Please be sure to send a towel and sunscreen.

THEME EXTENSION ACTIVITIES: On Tuesdays and Thursdays, campers will spend the time after lunch doing an extension of the activities from the morning. On occasion, we do a water slide.

FIELD TRIPS: Field trips are planned according to the theme of the week. Some are within walking distance, and some may require a CES bus or Metro ride. Information on any trips will be given to parents in advance of the trip.

SELF-EXPRESSION ACTIVITIES: During each of our weekly themes, campers have the opportunity to express themselves through art, drama, and problem-solving. Activities challenge children to develop self-esteem in a supportive, caring atmosphere emphasizing cooperation and team-building.

SNACK: CESummer provides a morning snack.

LUNCH: Campers are expected to bring their own lunch. Refrigeration or heating of food is not provided. We are a nut-aware camp. Please do not pack foods containing nuts.

WATER BOTTLE: Every child should send a water bottle daily. It should be clearly labeled with your child’s name.
